WHAT TO EXPECT
Attending a program for the first time can be an intimidating experience. Whether you are coming by way of referral, or choice, we welcome you to our space with open arms and look forward to supporting you in your journey and making your experience a safe and hopeful one.
Our office is located on the second floor of Quinpool Centre in Halifax (above Wendy's). We have two offices and an open space with a kitchenette and water, tea and coffee is available. Our program table seats 6-8 people. We offer bus tickets for those who are attending program and need them and we have a supply of personal care items available if you are in need of anything.
We keep our workshops small in size so that women can come to the table and feel comfortable and listened to. You will receive a workbook that is yours to keep, and will sign in at each session to confirm attendance. The reasons that women become involved in the justice system vary and women come from diverse backgrounds with many different experiences. Our workshops are rooted in an understanding and celebration of our differences and ground rules are established to ensure that each person is respected and cared for. Vulgar behaviour, gossip or discrimination of any kind are not tolerated.
When you complete a program (attend at least 3/4 sessions) you will receive a certificate of completion. If you were referred to a program through probation or parole, a Coverdale staff member will confirm your attendance with your supervisor (no further information is provided without your consent). Further support and services are available to you if you would like to continue working with a Coverdale staff or volunteer.
