

COMMUNITY JUSTICE : WHAT WE DO
The Coverdale Community Justice Program tackles the complex challenges where the justice system, incarceration, criminalization, and chronic homelessness intersect, with a focus on women, gender-diverse individuals, and youth in the greater Halifax area.
We provide prevention, intervention, and diversion through discharge planning, client support, justice system navigation, and housing assistance to promote stability and successful community reintegration.
Prevention and Diversion
Focus:
Individuals currently incarcerated or recently released with ongoing involvement with the justice system and navigating housing insecurity.

Goal:
Reduce recidivism & support successful reintegration into the community and promote pathways to stability.

Justice System Navigation and Support
Focus:
Individuals in community involved with the justice system. Those
who require assistance accessing criminal justice services.

Goal:
Remove barriers to attending court and other legal appointments and participating effectively in their criminal justice process.

Outreach for clients within the community​
Intensive Case Management
Focus:
Individuals with higher acuity needs who require comprehensive, coordinated support to promote stability and successful community integration. This may include individuals with prior involvement in the criminal justice system, though not necessarily current involvement.

Goal:
To provide holistic, client-centered support that fosters stability, strengthens personal capacity, and promotes long-term community integration while reducing the risk of further justice involvement.
